E30 REGISTER |

Co-ordinator:
Howden Farrar
Due to popular interest, the E30 register for the BMW
Club QLD is now up and running. This is for owners, drivers
and lovers of all things E30 and will involve social events
such as dinners and lunches, day trips and also to provide a
strong E30 contingent for show-n-shines and other club
events. It is also an opportunity to network with other E30
for ideas for upgrades, places to get them and traps to
avoid when modifying etc. As some of you will know, there is
already half a dozen of us who regularly attend private
track days run by Angus Chapel as the E30 is probably the
most rewarding chassis BMW has engineered to be thrown
around a track and are quite adept at embarrassing the
faster guys with their incredible handling abilities. E30's
are also infinitely tuneable with some Swedish examples
producing over 1000BHP albeit with engine transplants
(usually M30 turbo's or S50 turbo's) and make fantastic
track cars or tourers.
Register your interest here and stay tuned for upcoming
events. This is not a dictatorial register so I am asking
upfront for suggestions for activities or events that you
would like to participate in so that we get a good cross
section of things to do throughout the year. I look forward
to hearing from all interested parties.

When I bought this car I paid under
$4K for it. It was a totally stock 2.0L straight 6 with a 5
speed, 2 door coupe with 16" alloys. The interior was tidy
and the car was straight so I figured it was a good platform
to build up a track car. Ian Solomon pointed me in the right
direction a year earlier and put me in touch with RX
Automotive who's years of experience in this area have paid
great dividends in the resulting performance of my car, so
much so in fact that it is now the quickest E30 on the track
(yes that includes the M3's) and recently came 3rd in an
overall RWD shoot out at one of the Time Attack days
eclipsing a Lotus Elise and an R33 Skyline with a time of
1.06 flat on the Clubman circuit.
Modifications include :
2.7L Eta engine transplant.
288 Schrick cam
Polished and ported head with oversized valves
Recent Megasquirt install with
Cold air intake (thanks to Rick Miles for his
assistance)
King springs and Koni adjustable shocks,
M3 drop links and sway bar
3:9 LSD
Big exhaust
