Unwanted Gift. FOR SALE. Rare, near-new Walkinshaw V8. This engine was originally prepared and blueprinted by Ron Richards from the Engine Development Centre in the late eighties before it was shipped in the purple VL Holden “Mule” to Tom Walkinshaw in the UK for dyno and aerodynamic testing. When the vehicle was returned to Australia, Ron had the job of tearing down the engine to inspect it and then freshen it up.
Unfortunately Ron was never paid for the work so he kept the engine. It sat wrapped in glad wrap in the back of his workshop for almost 15 years until I finally pestered him enough to sell it to me. I thought I would surprise my wife with a better engine for her HSV VP GTS. Unfortunately she hated it, so after 25 km plus the cost of fitting, I asked Norm Powell to remove it and replace it with the original.
I have no idea of its horsepower rating but I do recall it was a strong motor with a healthy idle. It comes complete, including extractors and the original red painted throttle bodies. I am asking $9,500 to club members although it cost considerably more. Contact Bob Hamilton (18/02/10)
