MAILING LIST |
| |
The discussion mailing list is a
moderated mailing list that is provided to allow Club
members or other subscribers to discuss items of interest
with other members of the list. The list is moderated, which
means every message will need to be approved by a committee
member before being allowed through.
By subscribing, you can share technical information, or
anything else within reason with other members, ask
questions, or simply have a rant.

SUBSCRIPTION |
| |
How do I subscribe?
You can subscribe by simply selecting "Discussion Board" in
the field to the right, entering your email address, select
"Add to Mailing List" and clicking the submit button. You
will receive an email message asking you to confirm your
subscription. Once you have replied to that message, the
moderator will approve your subscription and that's it,
you're subscribed.
How do I unsubscribe?
You can subscribe by simply selecting "Discussion List" in
the field to the right, entering your email address, select
"Remove from mailinglist" and clicking the submit button.
You will receive an email message asking you to confirm your
request. Once you have replied to that message, you're off
the list.
Can I be unsubscribed by somebody else?
You can (and will) be unsubscribed by the list administrator
in the event of any of the following:
-
If you setup a vacation program that
automatically responds to list messages - your vacation
program should recognise and ignore list messages because
they always have the header: "Precedence: bulk".
-
If you attempt to send spam or other
offensive material to the list.
If you are removed from the list for
any of the reasons above, you will not be informed at the
time; it will be up to you to realise that this has happened
and to re-subscribe yourself if you wish.

TRAFFIC |
| |
How much traffic will there be?
The volume of traffic on the list will be small to start
with, but we hope it will grow as people start to share
information.
Attachments such as pictures will be accepted, but we ask
that you keep all attachments below 200Kb. Html links are
also allowed. Anything larger than 200Kb will be rejected by
the moderator.
The restrictions on the size of messages is there to ensure
that subscribers don't have to receive a large volume of
material.

What risks are there?
People are often concerned about spam when they think about
mailing lists. In the case of a moderated list, such as this
one, only approved people can submit articles. This prevents
the injection of spam into the list.
The other common concern is harvesting of email addresses
from lists so that spam can be sent directly. Here again,
there is nothing to worry about: only the list owner can
discover who is on the list and he is a sworn enemy of
spammers.
Finally, because of the exchange of email messages that is
required to subscribe to the list, you can be sure that
other people cannot subscribe (or unsubscribe) you. Only the
person who controls the email address in question can
arrange a subscription.
